Wow, it’s been awhile since my last blog post. 2018 has been extremely hectic, but I’m back and thought to share a quick update about what has been happening in my life and the changes that took place.
I’m sure most of you have noticed that I’m no longer as active on social media as before. I’m pretty sure you’ve also seen that I’m back in the design industry and no longer working in fashion at Fairlady.
I started blogging just before I started my 6 month journey at Fairlady magazine. I got an opportunity to work as a fashion assistant and thought to give it a go. I then left my job as a Junior Graphic Designer and started my new venture in the fashion/media industry.
As mentioned before, this was only a 6 month contract, but I went with it anyway, mostly for the experience, and also hoping it would bring me more opportunities in the fashion industry. After working a few months, I was so amazed by the lifestyle, but simultaneously, I suffered major anxiety.
Attending exclusive events and mingling with our local celebs was part of my job, and it became very overwhelming. There were numerous occasions where I felt like an outsider, but at the same time really loved the fashion side to it and felt “at home”. Everything was always about “image” and “cliques” and it became exhausting.
Something I also couldn’t help but notice, was how bitchy and pretentious some people in the industry were. Don’t get me wrong , there were a few genuine souls whom I met along the way, which made events a bit more pleasant. I also thoroughly enjoyed being on-set for fashion shoots, attending fashion shows, styling and assisting with trend research.
Long story short - my contract ended and I now run the design department at a signage company. I also have my own "little baby" called T-on-Trend Designs, which keeps me busy throughout the year. I had a lot of time on my hands while working at Fairlady, but that completely changed after I left, which is why I’ve been so quiet.
Besides adapting to my new job, I also suffered extreme heartache after my grandmother's sudden passing. This was a complete shocker and I just needed some time and space to clear my head.
2018 has been one of the most challenging years for me, both mentally and emotionally, but through challenges we grow.
I’m so excited to see what 2019 brings and truly believe that everything happens for a reason. We are meant to go through certain life experiences in order to learn and grow. We are faced with many challenges throughout life, but we need to remind ourselves that this too shall pass and better things are yet to come. Change can sometimes feel very overwhelming, but what is life without change right?
I hope you all had an amaaaazing start to 2019 and may all your dreams and goals that you set aside for this year come true!
Sending Love and Light your way xx
When is the best time to buy airline tickets? This is question I'm sure many of you have asked. I definitely have and had no idea until doing research and noticing a pattern. For instance, it has been noticed that there is a marked difference in prices quoted for afternoon flights, as opposed to morning flights. Also keep in mind that certain destinations are also season dependent. This obviously has an effect on airline prices, alongside other possible factors, such as an increase in oil, airline competition and even socio political status.
It has been established that national flights in between our busy metropolitan hubs such as CPT and JHB is one of the most busiest routes in the world. I'm always pricing tickets for the Cape Town to Johannesburg route and noticed that tickets are sold out rapidly. Interesting right?! Well on that note, I've teamed up with Travelstart, Africa's leading online travelling agency, to give you some tips and tricks on the best time to book your airline tickets.
One of the cheapest days to book your domestic flight, is on a Tuesday followed by Wednesday. If you're travelling for leisure, then I strongly suggest booking an early morning flight- research, including my own, suggest that afternoon flights tend to be more expensive. This could be due to an influx of businessman/businesswomen travelling to and from our major cities. Further consideration of costs, is that flights are cheaper when bought outside of local peak holiday season, specifically during the months of February and August.
Check out the latest local domestic flight specials and get to explore your beautiful country on a budget!
While doing research on booking flight dates, I noticed that it's more pricey to travel on weekends, including public holidays and during school holidays. There is a marked increase in prices during the months of December, January and July, also known as "peak season". Big events such as The Cape Town Cycle tour will also spark an increase in airline tickets, so try to avoid these days if you're on a budget. Flying abroad can also be extremely pricey, however here are a few tips on when to travel to save costs.
We all know that Thailand, Mauritius and Bali are South African favourites and also known to be cost effective. But did you know that there are quite a few other holiday destinations that offer good value for money too? New York, Mozambique, Egypt and Turkey are just a few examples that spring readily to mind. The cheapest time to fly out of SA is during the months of May, October and November. The best time to book your ticket is generally early Wednesday morning, this being due to further discounted ticket sales.
Fun fact: Most discounted tickets can be found on a Sunday and Monday night, carrying over to
Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. Interesting right?!
To save, try to avoid travelling during peak season, as everything including accommodation will be quite costly. Also keep an eye out for world famous events and festivals, as this will also impact your ticket price.

Nuri Sushi Factory opened a new branch in Durbanville a few weeks ago, and hosted a few bloggers for a delightful dinner. I'm a HUGE sushi lover so this, for me was like walking into "sushi heaven". We could basically order anything off the menu, including their new additions. They don't just serve sushi, but other seafood too. This adds variety to their menu, especially for those who don't have a penchant for sushi. I obviously had a bit of both.
The plate presentation was lush! I LOVE how creative they are in the presentation of the food. It's literally "Picture Perfect". The portions are great too and will definitely leave you lip-smacked! The staff were so warm and welcoming and the service was EXCELLENT!
The restaurant is very spacious with funky wallpaper graphics, and has a neat open plan kitchen. I like how simple they've kept the interior of the restaurant, placing all the attention into the tantalizing food.
Based on my experience, I highly recommend that you visit Nuri Sushi Factory Durbanville!
2 Weeks ago, I attended the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African International Fashion Film Festival, that took place at Mercedes-Benz Century City, Cape Town. The event kicked off with two workshop packed days, as well as two glamorous Oscar Awards styled red carpet evenings.
The Mercedes-Benz Bokeh Fashion Film Festival was established to create a spotlight for emerging film directors, and has grown to attract both local and international fashion enthusiasts, aspiring directors and creatives within the industry.
Adrian Lazarus, the founder of Mercedes-Benz Bokeh Fashion Film Festival, opened the event by talking about the purpose of the Festival and shared films submitted by some of the Festival’s previous finalists. Mercedes-Benz also supplied 3 Smart cars for guests to test drive, which was pretty cool!
It was so lovely seeing A-list celebrities, industry VIPs, producers, designers, models and invited guests all dressed up and enjoying the “paparazzi” lined red carpet, while delicious canapes, bubbles, cocktails and an Oude Meester brandy pairing station kept spirits high throughout the event.
Label.m and M.A.C had little stations set up making sure ladies looked their best offering free hair and make-up applications, while Redrum Culture Club supplied grooming for the gents.
Beautiful models sporting amazing hair styles, accessories and body paint made their way through the mingling crowds exhibiting awe-inspiring work of the nominees for the Gothic Couture Body Art and Creative Make Up Awards.
It was my first time attending the Fashion Film Festival, and WOW was I impressed! It's so refreshing seeing so much creatives in one space, exhibiting their beautiful work, while mingling with fellow fashion enthusiasts. I'm definitely looking forward to see what next years event has to offer!
A Big CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners this year, and a huge THANK YOU to the Mercedez-Benz Bokeh Fashion Film Festival team and sponsors for an unforgettable event!

Two weeks ago I attended the new Ted Baker store launch at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. This was by far, one of my favourite events I've attended this season.
We went on a little adventure to the top of signal hill, where we were welcomed with treats and chilled lemonade. Not only was the scenery amazing, but the set-up too. The staff were friendly and welcoming, looking on-point, dressed in Ted Baker. We socialised and enjoyed some yummy food, before heading off to the store.
Can I just say, if you havent been inside the store, you need to go!
It's so pretty, and their bags are AMAZING! They have a stunning, stylish selection of clothing, with bold prints, for both men and women. Their style being very dapper and lady-like, as the store is filled with pretty dresses, bags, shirts and ties. We were each given a Ted Baker bag, his and hers Ted Baker cups, and a cool note book with stickies.
A BIG THANK YOU to the Ted Baker team, designers and JK PR for an amazing event.
